SPOTLIGHT SPEAKER

Congressman Ander Crenshaw, FL-04

Ander Crenshaw

Ander Crenshaw represents Florida’s 4th Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives. Currently in his 7th term representing a district that includes Baker, Nassau, and Duval counties, Crenshaw is a member of the House Appropriations Committee.

Prior to going to Congress, Crenshaw had a 25-year, distinguished career as a successful investment banker.  While practicing banking, he served three terms in the Florida House.  Several years later, he was asked to run for the Florida State Senate where he served another five years and became the first elected Republican President of the Senate.

Representative Crenshaw has gained a reputation for being a strong advocate for strengthening and rebuilding our military, enacting responsible and permanent tax relief, and standing up for projects vital to Northeast Florida. Long an advocate of job creation and economic prosperity for Florida, Crenshaw has worked to secure projects that benefit the Port of Jacksonville, local beaches, and other important economic drivers.

In his second term in Congress, Ander Crenshaw became the first Northeast Florida Member to EVER be appointed to the powerful Appropriations Committee.  Now, Ander is the ONLY Florida Member to sit on Defense Appropriations.  Since defense is a major industry in Florida, Ander is well positioned to assist our military and our state.

His position is important because every defense dollar spent in our community brings new jobs and new people who buy goods and services from small businesses.   Ander is the reason why the East Coast homeport for the navy’s newest ships will be at Naval Station Mayport and why we have a new veterans’ cemetery and a new veterans’ outpatient clinic in Jacksonville.  The Navy is sending an amphibious ready group (ARG) to Mayport that will bring 2000 sailors and their families to our community.  These things happen due to the hard work in Washington by Congressman Ander Crenshaw.  The Secretary of the Navy recently recognized Ander’s dedication to the nation’s Sailors and Marines and awarded him their highest civilian honor – The Navy Distinguished Public Service Award.

Ander is also the ONLY Florida Member of Congress on Appropriations who chairs a subcommittee.  He is at the helm of the Financial Services Subcommittee, where he recently led the passage of HR 5016 that cut the IRS by $1.1 billion.  The comprehensive legislation, which passed the House by a vote of 228 to 195, cuts IRS funding to its lowest levels since 2003 and now moves to the Senate for consideration.

Recently, the Service Corps of Retired Executives (SCORE) awarded Ander the 2014 SCORE Hill Champion Award for his support of small businesses.  He has also received the National Retail Federation Hero of Main Street Award, National Association of Manufacturers Award, the Florida Chamber of Commerce Champion of Free Trade Award, and the Spirit of Enterprise Award from the United States Chamber of Commerce every year.

Ander and his wife Kitty live in Jacksonville and have two granddaughters who spend many weekends with them.

Featured Speaker

As a young patrol officer he rode “a beat” in downtown Jacksonville, where he developed relationships with citizens and business leaders, believing early in his professional life that connecting with citizens was very important to the success of what Agency is trying to accomplish: reducing and solving crime together with citizens who are engaged with their officers.

He quickly developed a reputation as a police officer who cares about people and likes to work with them to solve their public safety issues.

Sheriff Williams earned his way up the ranks to the appointed position of Director of Investigations and Homeland Security. Through his leadership, strengthening partnerships with federal law enforcement agencies, JSO deploys some of the most advanced technology available in the battle against domestic terrorism, the drug trade, and organized crime.
